QUERCUS HUMILIS
DOWNY OAK
This tree is also called Quercus Pubescens. Tree with a dense crown that can reach up to 20 metres tall. Rough, light-brown bark. Its leaves, measuring between five and ten centimetres in length, are very hairy on both sides, although they lose their hairs with maturity on their upper surface, leaving hairs on only the underside. Acorns, its fruit, are long and oval with a short and hairy stem and are covered by a dome-shaped cupule with a scaly surface.
FUN FACT: It is known as the pubescent oak due to its leaves' soft and short hairs. The wood from this type of Quercus was used to make charcoal. Nowadays it is used for firewood in homes and for construction in warmer climates.
