PINUS SYLVESTRIS
SCOTS PINE
Coniferous tree with a conical, slim and irregular crown which can grow up to 30 meters tall. A rust-coloured trunk with thick, scaly bark. It has the shortest leaves of all known species in the pine family. It doesn't grow true flowers and it has small pines which are more or less conical in shape.
The specific name sylvestris may cause some confusion. This is what Swedish botanist Linnaeus called the only native wild pine tree that existed in his country. Spain, however, is home to many different species of pine.
