LIGUSTRUM VULGARE
WILD PRIVET
Shrub growing to between 1.5 and 3 metres tall with flexible branches that features leaves in opposite pairs. Its white flowers produce a strong aroma and grow in bunches at the end of the branches. Its highly poisonous fruit take the form of glossy black berries.
FUN FACT: Its name in Catalan ("olivereta") comes from the great resemblance of its leaves, flowers and fruit to those of the olive tree. It is called privet in English due to its use in hedgerows to demarcate the boundaries of private properties.
