ACER CAMPESTRE
FIELD MAPLE
Tree that grows to between eight and ten metres tall with a round crown with dense foliage and bark that runs vertically. Its leaves, which are hairy when young, are dark green on the top surface and a more dull green on the underside, although they become yellow in autumn. Its fruit features two open wings, with each side containing a seed. When the fruit matures and falls from the tree, these wings make it spin and allow it to travel with the wind.
FUN FACT: Its wood is highly regarded as a building material and its leaves are used as food for livestock.
